Emergency Medical Services
It is also painfully aware to us that accidents will
happen and they will continue to happen. When there are thousands of people enjoying
this sport, someone is going to get hurt, be it a novice or a 20-year veteran. That’s
when we are going to need the availability of prompt Emergency Medical Services.
What we have learned about the Emergency Medical Services and the EMS personnel
is that they are stationed in El Centro, a 40 minute drive away. They are at Dunes,
for limited hours on limited weekends.
When they are there they have the pleasure of spending their entire shift,
sitting in their vehicle. Hence the shift at Glamis isn’t at the top of their favorite
postings list. We, on the other hand, want them there to be fresh and ready to go
when they are needed to provide the initial on-site injury treatments and assessments
and, if needed, the transport to the hospital. Accidents are not scheduled events,
but by expanding the EMS shifts at the Dunes, we will be able to cover a longer
duration of each weekend.
This will cover more time when the largest number of people will be enjoying the
Dunes. So instead of a weekend having a 9-5 shift on site Saturday and Sunday, we
could have a shift on Friday, and an extended Sunday shift. To support the EMS personnell
posting at Glamis, we are discussing a location at the Dunes for an EMS facility
which will give the Technicians and Paramedics a facility to use as a base when
on duty at Glamis. This facility will also have a secured garage to house the ambulance
and the gear necessary to make this a center for first response at the Dunes. Finally,
we want to see an improved capability to deliver Emergency Medical Services into
the Dunes.
A few organizations and people have donated equipment to do just that, but as “Chili
Dog” would say, “we need to take that to the next level.”
